Description

Preptone – Low VOC Handwipe Solvent

PREPTONE is a rapidly evaporating solvent system that utilizes Ultra Prep® terpene solvent technology. It features a precise blend of ultra-high purity d-limonene (UltraPrep) in an acetone base. This product merges the benefits of both solvents, with a proprietary inhibitor that safeguards the terpene from oxidation. PREPTONE mimics the "feel" of fast-evaporating solvents like TCE and MEK. Due to its terpene solvents, its performance surpasses most ketone solvents. Additionally, since the acetone component is VOC exempt, the vapor pressure and total VOC content are below many regulatory thresholds. PREPTONE is free from halogenated components, HAPs, and ozone-depleting solvents. It is compatible with all metals and some plastics, but few elastomers. It is not recommended for painted surfaces that may not be compatible with acetone.

Evaporation Rate – PREPTONE MEK Alternative vs. MIBK:

PREPTONE and MIBK have similar drying times, but their drying profiles differ. Lab tests indicate that both solvents evaporate in about 90 minutes under identical conditions (glass evaporating dish, static air, 30°C). However, PREPTONE evaporates more quickly initially. In double-wipe tests, PREPTONE outperforms MIBK in dry time and has lower total VOC emissions.
