Description
Ethylene Glycol – 55 Gallon Drum
Ethylene glycol is a clear liquid that consists of the chemical 1,2-ethanediol at a concentration of 80%-100%. It is an effective antifreeze in chilling systems as well as automobile engines. It is also used in the manufacturing of polymers, inks, pharmaceuticals, and other products.
Ethylene Glycol Benefits:
- Can be used for a variety of purposes
- Low flammability and reactivity
- Industrial-strength
- Fantastic anti-freezing properties
- Conductor – has excellent electrical properties
- Humectant
- Freeze Point Depression
Ethylene Glycol Applications:
- Ethylene glycol is an antifreeze solution that can be utilized in chilling systems.
- The amount of ethylene glycol required by the system will be lower if the system is indoors and higher if the system is outdoors where the temperature may drop below freezing.
- If a certain system necessitates a low temperature to function, the amount of ethylene glycol used should be the same as that in an outdoor system.
- A refractometer can be employed to determine the temperature at which a chilling system’s solution will freeze. This can then be used with a conversion table to figure out the percentage of ethylene glycol that should be added.
- Glycol breaks down into glycolic acid, which is basic and may cause metals or ammonia to leach into the system. Thus, to ascertain when more ethylene glycol should be added, the pH, ammonia level, copper level, and iron level of the system can be tested.
- Ethylene glycol is not safe for systems that are used with food or potable water.
