Environmentally Preferred Paint and Coating Remover
BUY ONLINE HERE
Description
SAFE STRIP is an environmentally preferred paint and resin solvent. This product effectively replaces methylene chloride, toluene, benzene and other hazardous solvents traditionally used for paint clean up and paint removal. It has a much lower Inhalation Hazard Index than Meth or MEK, making it a safer chemical to use in commercial and industrial applications.
Effective on a variety of cured and uncured coatings, SAFE STRIP may be used in an immersion tank or as a brush on, rinse off solvent.
Benefits
- Biodegradable
- Non-flammable
- Low VOC emissions in use
- One-step coatings removal
- Performance similar to MEK and methylene chloride
- Non ozone depleting
Applications
SAFE STRIP is effective on all coatings, even two step high-solids epoxy and polyurethane resins. SAFE STRIP is an excellent paint gun cleaner. Use SAFE STRIP in a gun-cleaning tank, with heat and/or ultrasonic or mechanical agitation. Reaction time varies with the paint or coating to be removed. For fastest stripping action, SAFE STRIP may be safely heated up to 140° F.
SAFE STRIP is recyclable and may be used over and over again. After recapture, spent material may be vacuum distilled or decanted to effect soil separation and allow the solvent to be reused.

Safety and Handling Precautions
This solvent is extremely aggressive! SAFE STRIP is strong enough to strip paint, and can dissolve certain types of rubber and plastic, (seals, gaskets, buckets and bottles). Please refer to the MSDS for more compatibility information, or call us with your questions at 1-800-563-1305.
Gloves and safety glasses are required when handling SAFE STRIP. We recommend butyl rubber gloves, (see MSDS for more information). Any material, which contacts the skin or eyes, should be washed off with plenty of water.
SAFE STRIP is combustible. Do not exceed 140° F when using in a heated immersion tank.
SAFE STRIP contains organic solvents. Use with adequate ventilation. Keep away from excessive heat and open flames. Please read the MSDS thoroughly before handling.
**WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including N-Methylpyrrolidone which is known to the State of California to cause reproductive harm. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov
FAQ
What is the CAS number and chemical formula of Safe Strip? Safe Strip is a mixture primarily composed of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (CAS number 872-50-4) and dipropylene glycol dimethyl ether (CAS number 111109-77-4). N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone is the main component (80-90%), with dipropylene glycol dimethyl ether making up about 10-20%. The exact formula for the mixture is not specified, but these components define its composition.
What are the synonyms, physical, and chemical properties of Safe Strip? Safe Strip is an environmentally preferred paint and resin solvent, also known as “SAFE STRIP.” It is a colorless to light yellow liquid with a mild, sweet odor.
Key physical and chemical properties include:
- Boiling Point: 202°C (396°F)
- Flash Point: 88°C (190°F) Closed Cup
- Density: 1.03 g/cm³ (8.59 lbs/gal) at 25°C
- Vapor Density: Greater than air (>1)
- Completely miscible in water
- Hygroscopic nature (absorbs moisture)
- Autoignition temperature: 245°C (473°F)
What safety precautions should be taken when handling Safe Strip? When using Safe Strip, keep it away from flames, sparks, and hot surfaces as it is combustible. Avoid smoking near it. Always use it outdoors or in well-ventilated areas to avoid inhaling fumes or vapors. Wear chemical-resistant gloves, eye protection (such as tightly sealed goggles or face shield), and protective clothing to prevent skin and eye contact. Wash thoroughly after handling and avoid breathing in vapor, mist, or spray. If skin irritation, eye irritation, dizziness, or other symptoms occur, seek medical advice immediately.
What are the appropriate engineering controls for Safe Strip? Use mechanical general ventilation or local exhaust ventilation to maintain airborne concentrations below recommended exposure limits, especially when working at elevated temperatures. Ensure work areas have appropriate exhaust ventilation. Use process enclosures if necessary. Respiratory protection is typically not needed if ventilation is adequate; however, use certified respirators if exposure limits are exceeded. Emergency eye wash stations and safety showers should be available in areas where Safe Strip is handled.
